Advanced Enrichment Name: Infographics 1
Learning Facilitator: Jessica
Number of Students: 13
Advanced Enrichment Dates: August 12-Oct 17
Days We Meet: Thursday and Friday
Course Description: In Infographics class we learned about what does infographics mean. Infographics means the way showing information as a chart or diagram. In Infographics we learned to look at the pictures to understand the information and we were so excited to get a chance to looked at an infographic because it was our first time to look at infographics by our own. When we first looked at infographic we got a little confused but the strategies are sometimes to look at the arrow. Infographics might have a lot of pictures but some don’t have a lot of pictures. The pictures that we looked at were about the Earth like when the animals die and decompose and become gasoline or gold. We even looked at infographics about acid rain. At the end of our Advanced Enrichment we made our own infographic about Liger as the same as 100 people. We made our own infographic because we wanted other students and visitors to get some information from our infographic.
Exploration Name: Life on Border
Exploration Dates: March 10 – May 2
Number of Students: 15
(1) What do students know about planning and running Exploration projects?
(2) What are the steps of running Exploration project?
(3) How to keep track ofworking process?
(4) How to use resources efficiently and transparently?
(5) How is the situation of people living along the border such as: education, health, economic and immigration?
(7) Why do people move there?
(8) What are the advantages and disadvantages of living there?
In our Life On Border group we learned a lot of things about border. Students know how to run the Exploration very well. Students know the goal to run their project. The first step that we can run our project is we learn about our goal. Our goal is Project Summary, Project Outcome, Project Mentors, Field Experiences, 21st Century Learning Skills and Core Curriculum Areas. After we learned about our goal we planned and thought. The situation of the people that live along the border is normal. Some people don’t have money so they don’t have work. Some people go to find work at Thailand so when the people go already some of the people can’t come back. People’s health is not so good at the border because they don’t have money to buy their food. They move to the border because if the people have the money they come to border to sell something because the border have a lot of people came from Russia to the Cambodia. So that why people want to make their business there. The advantage to live there is there are not a lot of bad people at there so it safe for people. The disadvantage to live there is if people don’t have money and they don’t have work they will not be safe for their life. We went to the border to learn and we saw some people have a work and some people don’t have work. Some people have a work but it like cart worker it is not easy to get the money. We interview the cart worker and the sellers. We went to casino to visit, but we didn’t get a chance to go in.
Name of Course: Robotics 2
Learning Facilitator: Max
Number of Students: 12 students
Days we Meet: January 19 to March 27
Course Description: In this Advanced Enrichment we learned lots of programing the robot. To program our teacher told us to do what challenge that we can work on. There were five challenges that Max told us to work. The first three challenges Max wanted us to make our robots move in the square using three different sensors. Next he told us to have a competition to see which robot is the fastest and what strategies that they use. After we knew the result he made the last challenge for us. That challenge was called Dragon Challenge. If we did right all we will get 90 points but it is so hard. In that challenge there were fire, dragon, people that helped one person stuck in the dragon place. We had to knock down the dragons and fires but don’t knock down the people who were helping. If we knocked the people that help we will lose our points.
Name of Course: World Leaders
Learning Facilitator: Sophorn
Number of Students: 10
Days we Meet: Thursday to Friday
Advanced Enrichment Dates: October 20 – January 16
Course Description: In World Leaders class we learned about the leaders and also the students learned to analyze the good or bad leaders all around the world. The good leaders are supposed to lead the country to develop and the leaders need to make the people get the peace. The bad leaders treat in bad way to the people in the country. We can understand the way how the famous leaders are leading for the country. The important part of our class was to understand the concepts of the leaders which means what are their ideas or inventions to change the country. All the leaders had different concepts like Gandhi. He led by integrity and non-violence. Also we watched a lot of movies because it helped us to get more ideas about the different leaders. The main movie that we watched was Gandhi. He was one of the most famous leaders all around the world because the way that he led shown the integrity. He had the mindset of non-violence. The most interesting part of our class was to learn about the quote of the leaders. For example Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi said “If you think you are helpless please help someone” and we think about her quote, do we understand or not. We also went on a the trip to meetMr. Kok Tha. He is the person that can share us a lot of information because he is the good leader. The leaders have many parts it is not just the leaders of the country they call the leaders. World Leaders was really nice because we can learn how to be the leaders.
Exploration Name: Liger Water System
Exploration Dates: August 12 – September 26
Number of Students: 12
Description: In our water group we learned about the pH of water. The full words of pH is Percent Hydrogen. That is the kind of scale that people use to measure the acids and bases. The scale of pH is 0-14. From 0-7 is acidic, 7-14 is basic and 7 is neutral. The hydrogen (H+) is acid and hydroxide (OH-) is base. When we learned about pH we did the experiment with 13 liquid things. For ex: the coca-cola and pond water. The coca-cola was 2.0 so it means acidic. If we drink it a lot like every day we would get sick but if we drink in 1 week only 1 it will be good. The pond was 10.0 so it means basic and if it has a lot of basic like this it also not good for our health either. So we can eat or drink only higher than 7 to 9 or lower than 7 to 5, so it not really have many bases or acids. In this class we also studied about algae. Algae is the kind of plants that live in water and it uses the sun as it food. When this plant lives in water it will make water become basic. We studied our own pond at Liger to learn about this. One other thing that we learned was the water cycle. We learned when the sun rises then it does the evaporation with water. When water goes up it is not yet become the clouds but when the temperature is cool then it makes condensation so it becomes the cloud. When the cloud in the sky catches the cool temperature it will become the rain again. To learn about water we went on the trip to RDI. RDI is the place that makes the water filters to sell. One thing that we learned from there is why they made this RDI place because they saw that some people here don’t have the clean water to drink so they can buy it to get the filter and clean for them. Another reason is when they sell the water filter they sell as cheaply as they can to help the people in Cambodia.
Exploration Name: VaPAC
Exploration Dates: Jan 20 to Mar 7
Number of students: 12 students
My group name is VaPAC. It stands for Visual and Performing Arts Cambodia. Our group areas are trip, sign language and mask-making. First I want to talk about the trip. Our group trip was going to Kampot Province. We went there to learn about the Cambodian arts and the disabled people. When we went there we knew that the disabled people can communicate by using sign language. Sign language is so important for the disabled people. We also learned some sign language too. The disabled people can do arts too. They do it by using movement. The next area is mask-making. Our group made the own mask. The mask is made by the paper. It took a lot of time to make one mask. When we finished doing the mask-making we designed what it will look like. The design can be used for performing. It also can be used for sale and hang it on the wall. Our goal was to make the story and do it by using the movement. When we do the movement we can’t say anything.
When I went to Epic Art, I felt happy because I knew that Epic Art stands for every person counts. All the disabled people can dance. First they taught me sign language. The words I learned are toilet, rest, water, clapping, like and clear. Then they taught me how to do exercises and play a game. I had to pick 5 styles of sitting with my group. When I performed, I felt very nervous; but, after I finished the sitting dance I felt normal. Next I had to make 3 pictures with the group. When I performed my 3 pictures with my group,I felt brave. After playing a game, they taught me sign language for the words mother, father, child, girl, boy and sibling. After learning the circle dance, I realized that I really enjoyed this type of dance. At lunch time, I interviewed the students at Epic Art by writing down some questions. During the interview, I was very impressed with how the deaf people can write and read. People at Epic Arts they use their body to make an interesting dance. At the end I’m so proud of myself because I performed my best dance ever.
I felt surprise to hear about this artist story. His story was he knew how to draw since he was 8 year old, the reason he came up of an idea to make fish with coconut because when when he saw the coconut drop he think that it look like a fish, so he try to make one fish and it success so he make more and more to sale.
Exploration name: Forest Ecology
Exploration Dates: Oct 7, 2013 – Nov 19, 2013
Number of students: 12
Essential Questions: (1) What is an ecosystem? (2) What is a natural resource?
Description: An ecosystem is the living things and the non-living things connecting with each other. The one example is algae. Algae take the sunlight for food and fish eat algae and then people eat fish. This is one connection. In Ecosystems class we had a journey book to take notes or write keywords that we don’t know what that word means. In Ecology class the first topic that we learned was tropical forest. We did not just learn only tropical forests but we also learned a lot of kinds of forests like conifers and others. A tropical forest is the forest that has rain a lot all year. We also learned about ecological relationships. Ecological relationships mean that one organism and another organism connect with each other. Ecological relationships are divided in five parts. They are parasitism, commensalism, predator-prey, mutualism and competition. Our Ecology group went to Mondulkiri province to study there. We spent six days at Mondolkiri. We met a lot of people like Bunong people. On Saturday we came back to our school and we shared what we learned.
Exploration Name: Documentary
Exploration Dates: November 20 – January 17
Number of students: 12
Description: The first day of our class was very exciting because we heard from the teacher that we were going on a trip to Siem Reap for four days. It was just one week away. But we had to write our thoughts about why we would go to Siem Reap. Before we went on a trip we had to learn about shots and how to use a camera because to make a documentary we have to film. Some of the documentaries were about the sand business, rice farm and waterways in Siem Reap. The last day of the trip we rode a boat to see the waterways and even the floating village. It was a fun trip but we learned a lot too! Our goal was to make our own documentary about the waterways. At the end of our Exploration we made it, so now we have our own documentary.
In liger have a lot of exploration but their is an exploration name M.A.D that I have trip to Takeo and Kep. When my M.A.D group went to Takeo we went to Karuna Kuma school to teach them about electricity safty rules. All the rules are what the kid like to play that why I chose all of the rules to teach them. When my group went to Kep we went to Kep garden school and sala monkey school to teach them about electricity safety rules. To the kid about electricity safety rules I and my partner decided to make a book. We draw the pictures to put in our book. Our book have slots with string hang with a card to pull out for get more information about the rules. In community English I have teach them how to speak better English, and teach them new English word.
